Bondage of a Free Man - Mish tha Rapper
The iconic music artist and social influencer Mishael Manasseh popularly known as Mish tha Rapper has modeled his views of the current situation surrounding his tribesmen(the Zaar people of southern Bauchi, North Eastern Nigeria) and the nation at large.
Taking to his timeline to share photographs of what he termed as "BONDAGE OF A FREE MAN" Mish tha Rapper threw is fans and social media users into bewilderment of the combination of different elements embedded in the photographs, ranging from a police helmet, khaki shirt and boot, desolate background, chain, lock, black, red and white stripped band, as well crazy jeans, skull necklace and earrings.
Speaking during an interview with a correspondent of ZaarGossip.com.ng, a subsidiary of a rising digital media outlets in Bauchi, ZaarGossip Media Ltd, MishThaRapper went on to express his concern of the series of challenges faced by the Nigeria state, his tribesmen and as individuals and using his skills through music to reach out to people using appropriate message of hope, social change and transformation.
In his own view;
the police helmet represents the Nigeria police and their struggle towards the incessant crime rising from theft, murder, drug abuse, and other social vices. Where as the khaki and the boot symbolizes the Nigeria military who are responsible for defending the county's territory against internal and external forces and protect its sovereignty. The desolate background epitomizes the serial crises and attacks by terrorist in his home town Tafawa Balewa, and other parts of the country where he paid tribute to victims who have lost their lives shelter, and means of livelihood. The chain and lock reflects on the bondage and helpless state of the nation towards corruption, terrorism, unemployment, kidnapping, militancy and vulnerability of the masses who are susceptible to the gimmick, vulgar rhetorics and culpability of the ruling class towards dividing them along faultlines of religion, ethnicity, region, ideology and political affiliations. The skull necklace, earring and crazy jeans showcases the involvement of the youths in cultism, drug abuse, child abuse and other uncultured activities that is not inline with our norms and values.
The black, red and white stripped band represents his tribesmen the Zaar (sayawa) people of the southern Bauchi, North eastern Nigeria, which are victims of some of the aforementioned
MishThaRapper added; my message here is for awakening of consciousness using music as a platform for the youths to rise up, protect our communities, values, norms, culture and to hold on and defend our future.
