DOGARA'S DEFECTION TO APC: HOW RELIGION IS PLAYING A MAJOR PART IN SOME ZAAR ACCEPTING HIS DECISION.

DOGARA DEFECTION TO APC: HOW RELIGION IS PLAYING A MAJOR PART IN SOME ZAAR ACCEPTING HIS DECISION.

By Mobmatics John Balewa

Even though majority of the zaar people have come to accept whatever decision the former speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara takes in politics, there are still few who didn't welcome the idea.

Though the same scenario played out prior to the 2015 general elections when he decamped to the APC, he maintained his position and decision which later went on to be the best decision ever taken in favour of his constituency, having won the speakership position on the platform of the APC, which in turn led to the biggest developments to ever come to his constituency.

A professor of political science at Uni Abuja, Professor Saleh Dauda who posted on his social media handle said he completely agree with the former speaker's decision, because he was among those that kicked against his decision to join the APC in 2015, which later proved he didn't see what the former speaker saw ahead of the 2015 general elections.

A lot of media debates are going on regarding his decision, most notably amongst his constituents. Many people have different views and opinions, each according to how they view their politics, some coupled with religious views, most notably among the zaar people. A major factor playing out is how the zaar man view politics; Since the zaar people accepted Christianity, it became a way of life that plays in every facet of their lives, including politics.

The zaar man doesn't believe in changing from one spot to another just as they accepted Christ, and believe he is the only way. The zaar people believe there's only one way in politics since the turn of democracy in 1999 and since PDP came first, they held unto the party the same way they hold on to Christianity, and any other party is now seen as an anti-christ or leaving the Lord's pack.

That's one of the major effects of religion on the zaar politics compared to how the Muslims view their politics. The Muslim believes, politics is a game of interest and people go where they will benefit and gain favours, as long as they will bring development along with the switch; having nursed a believe that even luck can take you to heaven while a Christian doesn't have that belief.

Late Zakka Arewa was one individual that flocked away from the politics of religion and till today, he is remembered as one zaar that played politics as it is. Unless the zaar stops bringing religion into politics, they'll always have contradicting views to whichever decision their top politicians take.

Politics is all about interest and what benefit one can gain in the game, not a religious belief. That's why the zaar people should be more concerned about what the former speaker can bring to the area in the next 2 years with his switch to the ruling party, not necessarily considering the permutations of 2023; the people should be more worried about today because tomorrow will come with its own worries.
