Culture: Happy Lemp Zaar 2020
Lemp Zaar is about the only surviving cultural festival in Bauchi state. It is a unique traditional and cultural festival of the Zaar (Sayawa) people held once in a year at their ancestral headquarters called Pusji, otherwise known as Tafawa Balewa, the hometown of the first Prime Minister of Nigeria, Sir Abubakar of blessed memory.
The festival has been the identity of the Zaar people for time immemorial. In the past, it was held by each individual community but all at the same period and with the same purpose. The purpose of the festival has remained undiluted, and that is thanksgiving to our Almighty for good harvest as well as good health and protection from evil spirits during the year under review.
During this show of thanksgiving, different cultural displays are made by way of showcasing our dance steps, singing, farm products, harmonious lifestyles, marriage processes, traditional beliefs among several others. It is always a sight and merriment to behold by both the aged and young.
