UNICEF Expends N40m on Lere PHC Renovation

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has spent about forty million Naira in renovation and upgrading of Lere Primary Healthcare Centre in Tafawa Balewa local government area of Bauchi State.

The Chief of UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, Mr. Bhanu Pathak stated this while handing over the health facility to Bauchi state Government at Lere District.


Mr. Bhanu Pathak said the renovation of the facility was meant to improve healthcare service delivery particularly for women and children in the area. He said the facility was one of the one hundred and seven primary health centers, outlined to undergo total renovation under UNICEF Project tagged Maternal, Newborn, Child Health and Nutrition (MNCHN) being funded by European Union (EU).
The District Head of Lere Alhaji Sulaiman Muhammad commended UNICEF for the kind gesture and expressed readiness to protect the facility. Alhaji Sulaiman Mohammad appealed to the State Government to provide water in the facility to improve healthcare service delivery for people of the district.

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Muhammad promised to provide water in the facility within two weeks. Governor Bala Muhammad, represented by chief of Staff of the Government House, Malam Ladan Salihu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment towards improving the health status of people of the state. Lere PHC is one of the forty Primary Health Facilities fully renovated by UNICEF’s MNCHN Project across the state and is tagged “Center of Excellence”.
