Poem: LET'S TALK ABOUT THE DEAD

By Chongkon Galadima
A tribute to our beloved who departed lately, a lesson to us all who are still alive today.

Let's talk about the dead

The ones who were whisked away

By the claws of Mortis

The ones whose presence
Now, we only feel in our reverie.

What about Andarah the beauty queen?
The ones whose elegance surfeit her skin.
I heard she was a coca cola bottle.
Little soldiers rise at the sight of her.
Yet devoured by the stranger in mask
Holding on for so long until death clinch.

Then it was Fushi the whizkid
They say he was really words-worth
His cognitive they say was so acute
And his hands so deft.
Just when to achieve stardom
The plane came crashing
And his soul deserts the body.

Whoever thought Mbursa would be in line?
Kingdoms he subjugate with his ferocious army.
Subservient subjects fall to the sword at his command.
But for a mere bite from an apple,
The dictator has kiss the earth!
The people screamed.

Let's sing a dirge for Nghaltu the widow
One who toil day and night, under sun and rain.
Working herself out at the market square
So the destitute kids could see the sun rise.
Boom! arms fling in the air and heads roll on the ground.
Who would hence put food on the orphans table?

It knows not the indigents, nor the rich it show respect. It delivers them all at the golden gates or the rusted walls.
I pray our good supersede our evil on the day our destiny stops.
May the soul of the beloved decease continue to rest with God.
